Zimbabwe’s Labour Court on Friday declared the protracted job action by junior doctors illegal, and ordered them to return to work within 48 hours.

The Zimbabwe Government had, earlier in the week approached the Labour Court after doctors ignored instructions to go back to work.

Justices Rodgers Manyangadze and Lawrence Murasi ruled that the doctors broke the law by going on strike.

“It is ordered that the collective job action engaged in by members of respondent on September 3 2019 be and is hereby declared unlawful. The said collective job action be and is hereby ordered to be terminated forthwith,” read part of the ruling.

Government was ordered by the court not to punish the doctors for the job action.

A source within the doctors’ camp said they will appeal the judgement.
