Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa says his Government has “shut the door” on graft and corrupt officials will face “dire consequences”.

In a special address to mark the country’s Heroes Day on Monday, he said authorities will enforce accountability “across all facets of our society”.

“The door to the old manner of doing things is closed. The corrupt way is shut and those who choose that route will face dire consequences.

“My administration, therefore, makes no apologies for fixing our systems across the socio, economic and political spectrum.”

President Mnangagwa has to date fired two members of his Cabinet for alleged corruption.

Prisca Mupfumira (Tourism) and Dr Obadiah Moyo (Health and Child Care) are both facing criminal abuse of office charges.

Mupfumira was dismissed in August 2019 while Dr Moyo was fired last month.

However, critics have attacked the Zimbabwe Government for “not concluding” corruption prosecutions.

The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission says over 60 corruption dockets have been submitted to the National Prosecuting Authority. Twelve of the cases are said to be high profile.
