Zim Leader Speaks On ‘Catch-and-Release Syndrome’

Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa says authorities will prosecute corruption suspects speedily and quash the “catch-and-release syndrome”.

“Catch-and-release” is a phrase commonly used in Zimbabwe to refer to how some anti-corruption blitzes have fizzled out without convictions.

In an address to mark Africa Anti-Corruption Day on Saturday, President Mnangagwa said, “The culture of long, drawn-out prosecutions and the ‘catch and release syndrome’ must come to an end.

“The arrest and successful prosecution of corrupt ‘big and small fish’ alike, must be the new normal.”
