Zim opposition official granted bail

HARARE Magistrate Mr Learnmore Mapiye has freed Zimbabwe opposition MDC Organising Secretary Amos Chibaya on RTGS$400 bail.
The Mkoba parliamentarian was arrested last Thursday and spent the weekend in police custody, facing charges of failing to call off a demonstration in Harare on August 16, 2019 . This was after the High Court had upheld the prohibition order issued by Zimbabwe Republic Police.
During a bail hearing on Friday, prosecutors opposed bail, arguing that Chibaya could abscond and commit a similar offense.
The defence team, on the other hand, said Chibaya is a good bail candidate as he is facing a more serious charge of trying to subvert a constitutionally elected Government and has not fled.
In addition to the bail, Chibaya was told to comply with previous bail conditions from his subversion case, which are reporting to Gweru Central police station once a month and not to interfere with state witnesses.
