Zimbabwe opposition youth leader, Gift Ostallos Siziba was on Thursday released on ZWL$1000 bail.

The MDC Youth Assembly Secretary General was arrested on Wednesday on charges of inciting public violence through utterances he made at a political rally.

Siziba appeared before Harare Magistrate Elijah Makomo.

According to the state prosecution, on July 7 while addressing a rally in Glen Norah, Siziba said that ‘the youths are ready to remove the ZANU PF Government from power’, among other utterances interpreted as incitement.

Other bail conditions included reporting to the CID Law and Order section, not interfering with state witnesses and residing at his given address. Siziba’s lawyer, Moses Nkomo, described the ZWL$1000 as punitive.

Sebastian Mutizirwa and Francesca Mukumbiri represented the state. Siziba is expected back in court on July 24 to get a trial date.
