Authorities in Zimbabwe suspect that two park rangers who were found dead in Kariba over the weekend were murdered by poachers.

“We are treating this as a murder case and investigations are still in progress,” said Zimbabwe Republic Police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi.

The bodies of the rangers were found floating in Lake Kariba and Zimparks spokesman Tinashe Farawo disclosed that authorities in both Zimbabwe and Zambia are hunting for the suspected murderers.

“We are on the ground carrying out investigations. In fact, the net is closing in on the suspects. We are working closely with our Zambian counterparts and other sister security organisations in the country,” he said.

It is believed that the rangers were murdered by poachers they came across during one of their patrols in Matusadonha national park.

Meanwhile, Farawo said Zimparks will continue taking a no nonsense approach towards poaching.

“It’s a war we are determined to win and there is no going back. Poachers are a menace we have to deal with,” he said.
