Zim records highest Covid-19 cases spike in 24 hours

Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 cases have risen by 98 in 24 hours – the highest spike since the country recorded its first case in March 2020.

This takes the country’s tally to 885 cases.

Of the new cases 47 are local while the remainder are returnees from Botswana (28), South Africa (22), and Swaziland (one).

The Health Ministry said 43 of the new local cases are contacts of known confirmed cases, while sources of the other four are under investigation.

According to the Ministry’s daily update report, 51 of the new cases were recorded in Zimbabwe’s second largest city Bulawayo, 21 in Matabeleland South province, 15 in Midlands province and 11 in Mashonaland West province.

Harare is the epicentre of the virus with 250 cases, while Bulawayo has 154 cases.

To date 206 people have recovered from the virus countrywide, while nine have succumbed.

A total of 82 007 Covid-19 tests have been carried out so far in the country.
