Eight retailers in Zimbabwe have been convicted and fined for rejecting the local currency, the Zimbabwe dollar, police have confirmed.
National police spokesperson Assistant commissioner Paul Nyathi told ZTN that 102 retailers have so far been arrested for the same offence.
“Out of the 102 retailers arrested, eight were taken to court and were convicted yesterday (Wednesday) in Harare,” he said.
The shop owners are being charged for contravening Section 3(2) as read with Section 4 of Statutory Instrument 175 of 2008 in terms of section 48 of the bank use promotion and Suppression of Money Laundering Act.
