Zimbabwe Rugby Legend Andrew David Beattie’s death has robbed the game of one of its most committed members.
Beattie, who died in his sleep, was 78.
Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) confirmed on Thursday saying he was a “staunch rugby supporter who generously gave his time and resources”.
His support to Old Miltonians Rugby club, Matabeleland, and Zimbabwe Sables, ZRU said, was invaluable.
“He will be remembered as a gentle giant, a philanthropist and rugby benefactor who was passionate about rugby in particular OMS and the Zimbabwe Sables for whom he used his personal resources, business clout and connections to secure educational scholarships and jobs for the Old Miltonians players,” ZRU said.
“Some of the players who were beneficiaries of his philanthropy and business connections include Zimbabwe Rugby Union President Aaron Jani, Sables legends Honeywell Nguruve, Brian Beattie (his son), and Tendai Tabvuma among many other rugby luminaries.”
