ZIMBABWE is mulling the production of a national postage stamp in honour of the women’s senior netball team, the Gems, following their outstanding performance at the just ended Netball World Cup.

The Gems finished eighth at the tournament, having gone to the tournament while ranked thirteenth.

Zimpost Acting Chief Executive Officer, Sifundo Chief Moyo, told ZTN that the country’s postal management company is currently consulting for the “befitting honour.”

“After putting the President on stamp to show that Zimbabwe is open for business, we were thinking that maybe it’s time to also release a stamp in honour of our gems following their impressive showing at the Netball World Cup,” Moyo said on the side-lines of a stamp handover to President
Emmerson Mnangagwa at his Munhumutapa offices in recognition of government’s “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” policy.

If the plan goes through, the Gems will be the first Zimbabwean Sports team to receive such an honour.

The Gems are expected back in the country today.
