Zim Target To Level Series

ZIMBABWE Chevrons may need to get rid of the hard hitters early in their second T20I against Pakistan if they entertain chances of levelling the series tomorrow (Friday).

Man-of-the-match Mohammad Rizwan, who had an unbeaten 82 in the 11-run win over the Chevrons on Wednesday, gained momentum as the match progressed and a final over burst did the damage.

Rizwan however said it wasn’t easy to bat after Zimbabwe opted to field first at Harare Sports club.

“They won the toss and used the pitch well. The wickets here are different, the pitch keeps low,” Rizwan was quoted by cricinfo as saying.

“But Babar and I have this plan where if one fails the other tries to go deep. It’s working for now. In Zimbabwe, the ball doesn’t quite come on to the bat, but once Hafeez fell, my aim was to get us to 150.”

Pakistan struggled with Zimbabwe spinners, but managed to defend their total of 149.

Captain Sean Williams will be aware they will need to sort out their fielding and middle order which again let the team down in their chase.

“I feel that second partnership to accompany that third wicket partnership was missing,” Williams said.

“The wicket played into our favour and winning the toss was crucial. Inexcusable to lose a game like that,” he said, adding it’s “inexcusable” the number of catches Zimbabwe dropped.

The absence of Brendan Taylor, who is recovering from an infection, was also a big factor going into the game.
