ZIMBABWE’S junior tennis player Sasha Chimedza feels blessed to have been selected as one of the 44 talented junior and professional players who received the US$25 000 grant, courtesy of the Grand Slam Player Development Programme.
The 14-year-old South Africa-based teenager told ZTN that she hopes to attend more competitions and eventually win the Junior Grand Slam in the near future.
“Being on the court is the best thing in the world,” she said.
The Grand Slam Programme provides grants to support players in order to get exposure and adequate experience at international level.
“This will put less stress on my parents from the financial side of the sport,” Sasha added.
The Zimbabwean is currently training in South Africa ahead of the Africa Junior Championships set to take place next month.
Since Cara Black’s achievements, Zimbabwe Tennis is still searching for another female star who can lift the flag at the world stage.
Sasha, among others, will be hoping to do just that.
