A 38-year-old woman from Mutare who returned to Zimbabwe from China has died after complaining of breathing problems.

ZTN gathers that the woman died on Friday at Wilkins Hospital in Harare, where she had been referred to from Mutare.

Government confirmed the death on Sunday and said tests for Coronavirus (Covid-19) were negative.

The Zimbabwe Government has dispelled rumours that the woman in question succumbed to Coronavirus.

“The woman tested negative. We have nothing to hide, we have not yet recorded any case as yet but we remain on high alert.

“Like I have always said, it is just a matter of when we will have a case as our neighbour South Africa has already recorded cases,” Health and Child Care Minister Obadiah Moyo said.

The woman is said to have consulted a private doctor on March 6 after complaining of shortness of breath.

She was referred to Wilkins Hospital for COVID-19 tests but died on the way.

“Subsequent tests at Wilkins indicated negative for Corona virus” Zimbabwe’s Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Ministry said in a tweet.

The woman arrived in Zimbabwe on January 24 from China where the virus was first reported.

This would be the third case of suspected Coronavirus that Zimbabwe has dealt with, with two others having tested negative as well.

Neighbouring South Africa has confirmed three cases of the deadly virus.

The virus first broke out in China late last year and has since spread to other countries, including Italy which has put a quarter of its population under quarantine.
