Zim Woman uses electricity worth over $10 000 for free

Martha Roman of number 6677 193rd Street, Western Triangle, has appeared before Harare Magistrate Dennis Mungoshi on allegations of by-passing an electricity metre reading system.
Details of the case are that on the 5th of March 2021, a Zesa official, Mr John Gombe Bensio was summoned by CID Minerals and Fauna Unit Police Officers to proceed to Roman’s house to inspect the metre box after information was received at ZRP Machipisa to the effect that there was a wire inserted into the metre box which by-passed the metre reading system.
Upon arrival the Zesa official discovered that the accused had inserted a wire into the metre box which by-passed the metre reading system, leading to her arrest.
Roman had done this to avoid payment of electricity bills as usage would not be detected because of the breach.
Metre readings conducted showed that electricity worth $10 540 was used by Roman without payment, which prejudiced Zesa. A ZETDC prepaid metre number 1410782223 which was being kept in the house was recovered.
Roman was remanded in custody to Thursday for bail application.
