Zimbabwe bans mining at National Parks

Zimbabwe has, with immediate effect banned mining activities on areas held by National Parks.
This comes amid furor over reports that two foreign companies were eyeing coal mining concessions at Hwange National Park.
Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa on Tuesday said, “steps are being undertaken to immediately cancel all mining title held in National Parks”.
On Monday, conservationists approached the High Court to block exploratory drilling at the Park, which holds one of Africa’s biggest populations of elephants.
