Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced a curfew from 6pm to 6am, as the country tightens lockdown restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19.

This, among other measures, takes effect on Wednesday until further review.

The President said, “As from tomorrow Wednesday, 22 July, all our security forces must enforce a dusk to dawn curfew set to come into force daily, between 6 0’clock in the morning and 6 0’clock in the evening,

He said only essential services will be exempt from the curfew, while non-working citizens will be required to stay at home.

Under the revised restrictions, businesses will now operate from 8am to 2pm, following strict W.H.O protocols.

President Mnangagwa also announced a ban on public gatherings for social, religious and political purposes.

Food markets will remain open, while intercity public transport will also remain banned.

Zimbabwe was on Level 2 lockdown, which allowed a number of businesses to operate, but with cases rapidly increasing Cabinet last week recommended a review of the lockdown.

As at Monday Zimbabwe had 1713 cases, 26 deaths and 472 recoveries.
