Zimbabwe today took delivery of two million doses of the Sinovac Covid-19 vaccine from China, the biggest consignment received so far.

This brings to over four million doses the country has received to date.

Another 1.5 million doses are expected on Thursday next week with a further two million to be delivered at the end of July.

To date, the country has spent US$40 million on procuring vaccines.

Health and Child Care Deputy Minister Dr John Mangwiro said; “The arrival of these two million will see the roll out going into top gear.”

Added Dr Mangwiro: “The minister of Finance has assured us more vaccines are coming and we would like to encourage Zimbabweans to continue going for vaccination.”

The Deputy Minister said colleges and universities as well as tobacco auction floors and market stalls will be used as vaccination centres.

Yesterday, the country reported 2,264 new cases, the highest number of new infections within 24 hours since the onset of the pandemic in March 2020.

At least 34 people succumbed to the virus in the same period.
