Zimbabwe on Tuesday morning recorded another Covid-19 death, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to four.
The Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Obadiah Moyo, said the person, who died at West End Hospital in Harare, came from Mhondoro district, in Zimbabwe’s Mashonaland West province.
“I can confirm that we have recorded a death this morning. I’m aware of a case that was still at casualty at West End.
“This person came from Mhondoro and tests were immediately done when the patient was received. We are already in the process of contact tracing the deceased’s relatives and all the health workers that handled this patient,” said Minister Moyo.
The death brings Zimbabwe’s total Covid-19 cases to 29.
The Southern African country, which is currently on a 14-day lockdown following an extension of its 21-day lockdown that came into effect on March 31, has to date tested over 4 000 people for Covid-19.
The country is frantically fighting to intensify its Covid-19 testing at a time it has continued to receive returning residents from several affected countries.
Zimbabwe currently has over 1000 returnees in mandatory quarantine in various centres.
