Zimbabwe national senior men’s soccer team got their CHAN qualifying campaign off to a flying start with an emphatic 4-0 win over their hosts Mauritius.

Never Tigere and Leeroy Mavunga made light work of the Indian Ocean Islanders with a brace apiece, to confirm a vital win for the Warriors.

Zimbabwe’s preparations for the preliminary round of the CHAN qualifier were shrouded in chaos following the unexpected resignation of coach Sunday Chidzambwa days before the game.

Chidzambwa’s trusted lieutenant, Rahman Gumbo was left at the helm to lead the team that was called into camp by his former boss.

But, on the field of play the chaotic preparations never showed when Tigere scored inside the opening 20 minutes to calm the nerves.

Yadah Stars winger Mavunga made the lead comfortable a minute before the breather, and the win was almost confirmed four minutes after the hour when Tigere completed his brace.

Mavunga was not done yet and added gloss to the score line three minutes from time, to give the Warriors breathing space ahead of the reverse fixture.
