Zimbabwe has suspended June Ordinary and Advanced Level public examinations as learning disruptions occasioned by Covid-19 affected candidates’ preparations.

This was announced by the country’s Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa during a post Cabinet media briefing in Harare on Wednesday.

Minister Mutsvangwa said the decision was arrived at after considering that pupils did not have adequate preparation time for the examinations. She said focus will now be on the November session.

Schools in Zimbabwe opened for the first term of the year on 15 and 22 March for examination and non-examination classes respectively.

Ordinarily, the first term starts in January, giving pupils at least four months to prepare for mid-year public examination. However, rising Covid-19 cases in December 2020 and January 2021 resulted in Level 4 lockdown.
