Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Dr. Sibusiso Moyo, has revealed that the country’s engagement agenda will soon focus on Washington.

Presenting oral evidence to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade on Monday, Dr. Moyo said that he intends to meet with the United States of America Secretary of State Michael Richard Pompeo before the year ends.

“I have met with different assistants to the US Secretary of State and the President has also met with them,” said Minister Moyo.

“In fact, I am expecting that this year I will be meeting my counterpart, Secretary Pompeo.

“We are also working towards a point when the President is able to meet with the president of the US.”

Minister Moyo highlighted that progress had also been made on the UK front and that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to meet the next Prime Minister of that country.

“In my recent discussions with Minister Harriet Baldwin (British Minister of State for Africa) we agreed that we must take things to another level. That is to the levels of the heads of state.

“However, UK is still going through a metamorphosis but soon there will be an appropriate time to meet at the highest levels with whoever will be the Prime
Minister of the UK,” he said.
