Zimbabwe’s Muyeye yet to decide on Chevrons

Zimbabwe born cricket sensation Tawanda Muyeye has refused to commit his international career to Zimbabwe.

Muyeye – is on top of his game after he recently won the high-status Wisden Schools Cricketer of the Year award.

A number of cricketers who won the award have gone to do very well at senior level including England’s World Cup winning players Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler.

The teenager is waiting for his A Level results after completing advanced level studies at Eastbourne College in East Sussex, but is already attracting huge interest from English teams.

“Yes I am definitely looking forward to club cricket and university cricket.”

“I have an offer from one of the top cricket clubs in England and I am looking forward to play for them.

“I just cannot wait to start there but obviously depending on my A Level results,” he said.

But asked about his international commitment, the Peterhouse School in Marondera graduate kept his cards very close to his chest.

“This is a question a lot of people have been asking about, whether I am turning my back on Zimbabwe but definitely not.”

“My options are open and it is still a long way to go, I still have to finish my three years at university.

“I think I have a long-time to make a decision whether I want to play for Zimbabwe or try and qualify to play for England. But right now my focus is getting my A levels, go to university and get a degree that is my long-term goal, I am not really focused on which country I will play for.

“I will know in a couple of years when I decide,” said Muyeye without giving a hint on his future international career.

The right handed player who repeated double centuries in his league in 2018 and 2019, the first ever in the history of Eastbourne College, showed his patriotic side of Zimbabwe with a Covid-19 message.

“I hope you guys stay safe, coronavirus is such a big thing right now, I just urge everyone to stay home and to stay safe,” he told ZTN Sports from his England base.
