Zimbabwe’s Tobacco Farming Under Siege

The 2019/2020 tobacco farming season in Zimbabwe kicked off in September with farmers who irrigate their crop leading the pack.
But, due to the El nino induced drought which hit the SADC region during the 2018/2019 farming season, most rivers and dams are dry and irrigation has been difficult to implement.This shortage of water might just see a decline in production.
Tobacco Research Board manager, Dr Daliah Garwe gave us an overview of what’s happening in the sector.
