THE Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has extended the registration period for November 2020 Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations.

In a circular to examination centre heads, the examination board said registration would now close on 2 October.

“Heads of Examination should communicate this extension of registration to all prospective candidates in their communities,” the circular reads in part.

Traditionally registration for November examination closes between March and April.  This year’s deadline had been initially set for 27 March.

Teachers have welcome the deadline extension but want Government to assist less fortunate students with examination fees.

“We appeal to government to assist disadvantaged students with registration fees as it will also be an investment, these students will also plough back into the economy in the future,” said Dr Takavafira Zhou, president of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe.

Dr Zhou also bemoaned what he said was little time given to students to prepare for examinations.

Examinations are set to start on 1 December, while schools will open on 28 September for Zimsec examination classes only.

Those writing Cambridge examinations returned to class on 14 September.
